The numbers behind the madness...

Full Time

Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City

A ridiculous game ends with the Reds, just about, taking all three points and halting the visitors' unbeaten Premier League run. Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino, Mane and Salah got the goals to ultimately down a determined City. One of the very best matches you'll see.

90+3

Substitution

Ragnar Klavan on, Sadio Mane off.

90+3

Yellow Card

James Milner booked.

90+1

Goal

Goal for City - Ilkay Gundogan

Leroy Sane chased into the Reds area and teed up Sergio Aguero to cross for Ilkay Gundogan to calmly control and send a cool finish into the net.

90

Four minutes added on.

87

Substitution

Adam Lallana on, Mohamed Salah off

84

Goal

Goal for City - Bernardo Silva

City attacked down the left channel and when the ball fell to Bernardo Silva at the back post, the substitute clinically slammed the ball beyond Loris Karius.

4-2.

82

The Reds have not stopped attacking and Roberto Firmino led another breakaway, eventually moving the ball back to Georginio Wijnaldum for a shot that the No.5 dragged wide.

80

Among the many brilliant performances today, Andy Robertson's has been right up there - so much so, the Kop have been chanting the Scot's name at length. Well deserved

79

James Milner on, Emre Can off.

76

This picture is the best thing we can find to sum up the second half.

72

Yellow Card

Fernandinho booked.

71

Substitution

Bernardo Silva on, Raheem Sterling off.

69

Yellow Card

Raheem Sterling shown a yellow card.

68

Goal

GOALLLLLLL!!!!!! MOHAMED SALAH!!!!

What is happening here?

Ederson rushed out of goal to clear a through pass but his knock away lacked power and Mohamed Salah pounced to whip a shot over the 'keeper and down into the goal.

Outstanding stuff from Liverpool. Outstanding.

66

Bang!

65

Yellow Card

Nicolas Otamendi into the book.

62

Goal

GOALLLLLLL!!!!!! SADIO MANE!!!!

Scenes at Anfield.

Within three minutes of Roberto Firmino's effort, Sadio Mane had swerved a shot off the outside of the right post and then made no mistake at all to cap off a counter-attack with a thunderous blast into the top corner.

59

Goal

GOALLLL!!!!!!!! ROBERTO FIRMINO!!!!

Outrageously good.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain slid a pass through to the No.9, who shrugged off John Stones and lofted a sensational dink over Ederson and into the net. Incredible.

55

Unlucky!

Ederson scooped a corner-kick out to Mohamed Salah but recovered to repel the Egyptian's well-struck drive, and within seconds the City goalkeeper stopped Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's attempt to force the ball home at the near post.

53

City threaten again and only superb defending by Joel Matip denied Sergio Aguero a tap-in when Kevin de Bruyne aimed to thread a cross to his colleague from the right hand side.

51

Excellent footwork from Joe Gomez on the right flank created a chance to swerve in a cross, but the Englishman could not find a teammate.

At the other end, Nicolas Otamendi sends a header against the top of the crossbar after Sergio Aguero's blocked shot from the left channel earned a corner.

48

Expect no let-up in the ebb and flow of this contest judging by the early moments of the second half.

Half-time

All of the stats from the first half at Anfield...

Half Time

Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City

A frustrating end to the half for the Reds, who led through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but have been pegged back by Leroy Sane's late strike. Absorbing stuff - and more to come.

41

Goal

Goal for City - Leroy Sane

Joe Gomez got under a crossfield pass, right to left, and Leroy Sane took advantage to drive into the box, round the Liverpool defender again and crack a finish inside Loris Karius' near post. 1-1.

39

Mohamed Salah is coming alive at the moment. The Reds have missed a couple of opportunities to release the No.11 at pace, so he just took a more direct route with a rising curler that Ederson collected well.

35

Match shot

Summary: intense.

34

Kevin de Bruyne fires off a similar effort to the Liverpool goal but it was a straightforward take for Loris Karius, low to his right.

31

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a man on a mission here.

More really positive pressing from the No.21 gave him space to use on the right hand side and his delivery to Roberto Firmino at the near post was glanced wide by the Brazilian.

30

Substitution

Danilo on, Fabian Delph off.

28

Liverpool have a decent little spell of possession to take the sting out of City's momentum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's clever idea to loft the ball towards an unmarked Roberto Firmino is foiled by the weight of his pass.

23

The visitors are stepping it up now, with Kevin de Bruyne beginning to become a real influence.

Leroy Sane tried his luck with a shot that was deflected and, thankfully, spun off target.

19

Close for City.

Cute passing on the right flank saw Raheem Sterling tee up Kevin de Bruyne for a dangerous, bobbling delivery across the Liverpool area, with Sergio Aguero unable to connect in the middle.

14

If the opening exchanges were slow, this is now the game we all expected.

City are surging back at any chance but the Reds could easily be 2-0 up. First, Sadio Mane hesitated over a counter-attack and then Mohamed Salah somehow worked room yards out only to prod wide of goal.

11

A moment to savour...

9

Goal

GOALLL!!!!!!!!!!! OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN!

What a goal!

Exactly what the Reds would have wanted after a cagey start. The midfielder saw space to attack in the City half, drove into a shooting position at the edge of the box and smacked a low shot across Ederson and into the bottom left corner. Brilliant.

6

A worry at the other end as Kevin de Bruyne feeds a neat pass into Raheem Sterling inside the area. The former Liverpool winger tumbled under pressure from Emre Can and the referee - rightly - dismissed any appeal for a penalty.

3

Almost a sniff of goal for the Reds. Roberto Firmino flicked a pass forward to Sadio Mane in behind but he could not get the ball under control and Mohamed Salah's eventual hit was easily blocked.

'Respect City, don't fear them'

Klopp's programme notes make for interesting - and inspirational - reading as the manager muses on the balancing act between respecting Manchester City's remarkable form this season and ensuring nobody at Liverpool fears Guardiola's charges.

"Respect is healthy and necessary, but fear or complacency are not allowed – ever," writes the boss. "We respect City, as we respect every opponent. We have studied their strengths and their weaknesses, as they will have done with us. I would expect the respect is mutual, because they are smart people who will know our own quality is as good as their own."
